Meow there, fellow felines (and the hoomans who serve us).
I’m here to talk about something very serious: heat. That big bright thing in the sky is great for naps in sunbeams, but when it gets too hot, we suffer — in silence (well, mostly).
So on behalf of cats everywhere, here’s how you hoomans can protect us during those sweaty summer days.
🧊 1. Keep the Temperature Cat-Approved
Please remember: we wear fur coats all year round. If you’re sweating in a T-shirt, imagine how we feel.
✅ Use fans or AC.
✅ Close curtains during the hottest hours.
✅ Make sure there’s a cool, shady spot where we can flop dramatically.
💧 2. Hydration Is Everything
Some of us are picky about water (okay, all of us). Nowadays there are also hydration meals for us also which might help you!
✅ Place bowls in multiple places.
✅ Use wide, shallow bowls or even a cat fountain — we love moving water!
✅ Try ice cubes in the water (we like to play with them too).
🍗 3. Light Meals for a Light Mood
When it’s super hot, our appetite can drop. That’s normal! My mom creases the wet food quantity vs dry food quantity during summer and I appreciate that!
✅ Serve wet food slightly chilled.
✅ Avoid leaving food out too long — yuck.
✅ Treats? Still yes, but in moderation.
🐾 4. Grooming Help Wanted
We usually handle this ourselves, but sometimes…
✅ Brush us more often to remove excess fur.
✅ Especially helpful for long-haired royalty like Persians.
Bonus: It makes us feel fancy. 💅
💤 5. Respect Our Lazy Vibes
You might notice we’re even lazier than usual. That’s heat conservation, thank you very much.
✅ Let us nap undisturbed.
✅ Avoid rough play during the hottest hours.
🚨 6. Warning Signs to Watch
If you ever see us:
- Panting (yes, cats can pant — but it’s rare)
- Lethargic or confused
- Vomiting or drooling
📞 Call the vet. Heatstroke is no joke.
💖 Final Meow: Love Us Like the Royalty We Are
We may not say “thank you” (unless it’s dinner time), but we notice your care.
Keeping us cool = keeping us healthy, happy, and purring.
So let’s survive this summer together — one shady nap at a time.
Paws out,
Your Favorite Furry Overlord 🐾☀️
